Police Arrest Firearm Fabricator, Three Others in Enugu

The Enugu State Police Command has apprehended four suspected criminals in separate operations for offences including firearm fabrication, armed robbery, unlawful possession of firearms, cultism, and drug trafficking.

According to a statement released on Wednesday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, the arrests reflect the proactive strategies deployed by the Commissioner of Police, Mamman Bitrus Giwa, in curbing crime across the state.

On May 9, 2025, operatives of the Crack Tactical Squad arrested one Ikechukwu Ugwele, also known as “Angle 90,” aged 35, and recovered a Beretta pistol. His arrest followed the earlier recovery of substances suspected to be “Loud,” a premium variant of marijuana. Ugwele confessed to multiple criminal activities and subsequently led the police to where the firearm was hidden.

In a related development, on May 8, operatives of the Anti-Cultism Tactical Squad arrested Emmanuel Eze, alias “Camara,” aged 25, and recovered a locally made pistol. His arrest stemmed from confessions made by two other suspects: Uchenna Nwudi, alias “Asai,” aged 29, who admitted to being a firearm fabricator, and Eze Chiadikobi, aged 32, who is allegedly involved in transformer vandalism. The three suspects reportedly confessed to being members of the Vikings Confraternity.

All suspects are expected to be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of investigations.

The police further recalled that CP Giwa, during a press briefing on May 8, 2025, reported significant progress in crime-fighting efforts since assuming office in March. He announced the arrest of 291 suspects, including 42 for armed robbery, 33 for kidnapping, 12 for murder, 6 for unlawful possession of firearms, 5 for rape and defilement, 44 for cultism, and 149 for various other offences. Additionally, 36 kidnapped victims were rescued, while 44 firearms, 173 rounds of ammunition, and 20 vehicles were recovered.

CP Giwa reaffirmed the command’s commitment to tackling criminal elements and called on residents to remain vigilant and cooperative in maintaining public safety.
