Plateau Police Reassure Residents with Continued Security Watch During US-Iran Conflict

The Plateau State Police Command has reassured residents of sustained security and increased vigilance as tensions continue to brew over the outbreak of war between the United States and Iran and the subsequent killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and several senior officials.

The killing of Khamenei has led to pockets of protests in different parts of Nigeria by members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria, IMN, popularly known as Shi’ites, who have taken to the streets to vent their anger against the bombardment of Iran by the US in conjunction with Israel.

But in a proactive measure aimed at dousing the tensions and preventing any breakdown of law and order, the state police command said it has reinforced intelligence-led policing measures across the state in collaboration with other security agencies to forestall any security breach.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by its spokesman, DSP Alfred Alabo, on behalf of the state Commissioner of Police, CP Bassey Ewah, the command stated that though Plateau remains stable, it has heightened surveillance, intensified intelligence gathering, and strengthened engagement with traditional, religious, and opinion leaders statewide.

The statement added that enhanced visibility policing and patrols had also been deployed around worship centres and public spaces to ensure a swift response to any attempt to exploit global developments to incite unrest.

“While Plateau State remains stable and our internal security situation firmly under control, we have reinforced proactive, intelligence-led policing measures to guarantee continued peace and security,” Ewah said in the statement made available to journalists in Jos.

The CP further assured that the command will not allow the state to serve as a theatre for foreign conflicts, warning that any attempt to import external ideological or religious tensions will be met with the full weight of the law.

He, therefore, urged residents to remain calm, vigilant, and law-abiding, and to report suspicious activities to the nearest police formation or through designated emergency numbers, reaffirming its commitment to safeguarding lives and property a

cross the state.
