A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Segun Sowunmi, has stated that state governors will not determine the outcome of the election.
Sowunmi made this statement on Friday when he appeared as a guest on ‘Politics Today’, a programme on Channels Television.
His remarks came following the defections of many PDP governors into the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to him: “What I’m saying is that governors are important. I will not downplay that. But governors don’t make up the totality of the electorate. I have seen the holy anger of people topple nations. How much more can civic authority do just by voting? I know that it.
“It looks like it’s a done deal in the minds of the friends of the States and the people who are looking at all the rushes. But I can guarantee you, if only PDP had gotten out of court on time, things wouldn’t have been like this.
“You will be shocked at how many people, even in the present APC, will not get a ticket for what they want. You’ll be shocked at how easy it will be for the campaign to start. Then you will understand what it means to be a 27-year-old political party with name recognition and restructuring all the grassroots with image and logo recognition.
“Listen, I am not happy that PDP is here but I am beginning to get convinced that it’s the journey that PDP is carrying because PDP is the university of democracy and power.”
