Owo council boss, Omolayo suspended over gross misconduct

The Chairman of the Owo Local Council Area of Ondo State, Tope Omolayo, has been suspended indefinitely over alleged gross misconduct.

Omolayo was suspended with immediate effect following the resolutions reached by the legislative council of the local government under the leadership of Doyin Adebayo during its sitting on Wednesday in Owo.

With the decision passed by a majority of the 11 councillors of the legislative council, which signaled two-thirds, the councillors disclosed that the decisive action was taken to ensure good governance and accountability in the council area.

While urging stakeholders within the council to remain calm over the development, Adebayo emphasised that the Vice Chairman, Hamed Ibrahim, will act as Chairman during the period of suspension.

“The allegations against Hon. Omolayo include financial improprieties, utter violation of statutory budget and IGR regulations, disrespect to traditional heads, and failure to conduct himself in an appropriate manner. These allegations are serious and require thorough investigation.

“All properties of the Local Government Area Council in the possession of Omolayo shall be handed over to the Head of the Local Government Administration.
