The Governor of Cross River State, Bassey Otu, has showered praise on his predecessor, Ben Ayade, as the former governor marks his 58th birthday, describing him as a brilliant intellectual, bold reformer and devoted patriot whose leadership left lasting imprints on the state’s history.

In a goodwill message released by his Chief Press Secretary and Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Linus Obogo, Governor Otu reflected on Ayade’s eight-year administration, portraying it as a pivotal era in Cross River’s modern political journey—defined by intellectual depth, expansive vision and an unwavering resolve to reshape the state’s development path.

“On the occasion of your 58th birthday, I celebrate you as a statesman whose years in office were distinguished by rare vision and courage. Your administration pursued industrial growth with purpose and a deep belief in the immense potential of our beloved state,” Otu stated.

The governor noted that Ayade’s tenure was driven by a relentless push for industrialization, infrastructure expansion and economic diversification, initiatives which, he said, ignited nationwide discourse on innovation at the subnational level and the power of visionary leadership.

According to Otu, Ayade infused governance with academic discipline and futuristic thinking, harmonizing scholarship with leadership in a manner aimed at widening economic horizons and redefining governance possibilities in Cross River.

He also recalled Ayade’s earlier role in the National Assembly, where he represented the state with distinction before ascending to the governorship. “In the Senate, your contributions were marked by clarity and conviction, bringing legislative depth and intellectual strength to executive governance and strengthening our democratic process,” Otu said.

Governor Otu described Ayade’s years in office as a period of ambitious development strategies designed to reposition Cross River within Nigeria’s competitive federal system—years characterized by daring ideas and sweeping visions that challenged traditional boundaries and encouraged citizens to envision a more industrialized future.
