One dead, as police arrest suspected pirate in Rivers

A notorious pirate who has been terrorizing passengers along the Port Harcourt/Bonny waterways in Rivers State, Dan Ezekiel George, has been arrested after his gang attacked a passenger boat that claimed one life along the Bonny-Port Harcourt waterways in Rivers State. The suspect, aged 28 years and a boat driver was nabbed during an attack on Port Harcourt-bound travelers around Asarama area of Andoni Local Government Area of the State, carting away their goods and other belongings on Thursday morning. A source who pleaded anonymity told our correspondent that many of the passengers sustained injuries from machete cuts used freely on them by the criminal gang, while one of them died in the process. When contacted, spokesman for the State Police Command, Nnamdi Omoni, confirmed the incident, saying a manhunt has been launched to apprehend fleeing members of the gang. He is on the police wanted list. He was arrested alongside others. “Yes, it is confirmed. He is with us. It was in a joint operation by security operatives in the State. Daniel George was arrested. He is about 28-years old from Andoni. “He was arrested among others but he is the key person and he has been on the police watch list. He was arrested along the Bonny River. We are interrogating him and he is helping the police in our investigation,” Omoni added. Asked how many suspects were arrested along with the wanted criminal, Omoni said, “They were many but while profiling them they (operatives) discovered that some others were not part of the operation. But this particular Dan Ezekiel George is on the police watch list.”
