A rich blend of culture, love and communal unity took centre stage on Saturday, January 24, 2026, as the families of Okwu of Ogwofia Mgbagbuowa, Ezeagu Local Government Area, and Udefi of Umuonaga Ugbo, Awgu Local Government Area, both in Enugu State, came together to celebrate the traditional marriage of their children, Favour Chiamaka Okwu and James Obiora Udefi, fondly known as Okenwa.
The colourful ceremony, held at the Mgbagbuowa School Field, drew an impressive crowd of family members, friends, relatives and well-wishers from within and outside the state. Guests were treated to a spectacular display of Igbo cultural heritage, highlighted by the elegant attire of the bride’s friends and the groom’s associates, who appeared in dignified traditional white outfits.
Proceedings formally began with the traditional breaking of kolanuts, performed by Chief Pius Ogboke, symbolising peace, acceptance and the sealing of unity between the two families. The atmosphere was further enlivened by exquisite traditional décor, sumptuous local and continental delicacies, vibrant music and captivating dance performances by the couple, which thrilled attendees.
A key highlight of the event was the solemn blessing of the union by the bride’s father, Apostle Great Emmanuel Okwu, who committed the marriage into God’s hands, offering prayers for love, harmony and prosperity in their new home.
Speaking in separate interviews with UGAMATV, the radiant bride, Miss Favour Chiamaka Okwu, and her charming groom, Mr. James Obiora Udefi (popularly known as Okenwa), expressed heartfelt gratitude to God for the successful traditional marriage ceremony.
The couple also appreciated their parents, families, friends and well-wishers for the overwhelming love, support and prayers that culminated in their joyous union.
With visible excitement, the lovebirds joyfully reaffirmed their commitment to one another, pledging to walk together in love, understanding and mutual respect, while working hand in hand for the growth, stability and success of their marriage.
The bride’s mother, Pastor Mrs. Edith Obiageli Okwu, described the occasion as a moment of joy and fulfilment, praying for divine guidance and lasting blessings upon the couple. In the same vein, the groom’s mother, Mrs. Catherine Udefi, prayed for peace, longevity and fruitfulness in the marriage.
Other relatives and well-wishers, including Mrs. Victoria Udeani and Miss Chukwudumebi, offered words of encouragement and goodwill, showering the couple with prayers and best wishes.
The celebration reached its climax with the cutting of the wedding cake, after which the groom proudly escorted his bride home, bringing the memorable traditional marriage ceremony to a joyful and fitting close.
