Ojukwu’s son, widow hail Anambra for voting for APGA, Soludo

Emeka Ojukwu, a son of the late Igbo leader, Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu, has described the victory of the All Progressives Grand Alliance in the Anambra State November 6 governorship election as divine.

Ojukwu (jnr) who spoke  in Awka, Anambra State capital, on Thursday, said APGA’s landslide win in the poll was a resolve  of the people to take their destiny in their own hands .

He said, “It (election) had to be held to ensure continuity and allow the state to grow, building on the foundation left by Governor Willie Obiano and his predecessor (Peter Obi) to ensure Anambra continues to move forward and not backward; it had to be held to fulfil our debt to Ezeigbo Ojukwu (his late father) and other foundation members of the party who passed the torch on to us”.

” His (late Ojukwu’s) image has always loomed large. It is the symbol which unified us  and inspires us to forge a united destiny for our people. That in no way takes away from the monumental effort made Governor Obiano, who by sheer force of will and the support of well-meaning stakeholders, made the impossible, possible”.

He urged the APGA leadership to make genuine effort to reconcile aggrieved members, welcome  back those who left and create an atmosphere that would attract new members so that the party would grow.

Similarly, Ojukwu’s widow, Bianca , in a statement said, “Soludo’s victory has brought back hope into a political heritage that was slowly inching towards eclipse. His victory has given us the chance to live another day as a party, after almost 16 years of governance in the state, Anambra people have given us yet another fresh mandate.

“This victory presents our party with another golden opportunity to prove to the citizens of Anambra that our party’s welfarism agenda and commitment to the grassroots remains firmly in place. And that we are dedicated to correcting the misdeeds of the past as we usher in a new era of dynamism in governance,” she said.

Bianca said  Soludo had proved through his records that he would be  capable of driving the transformation for Anambra and the entire South-East in general

She added, “The emergence of Soludo heralds a new dawn for Anambra, I am appealing to our party members who left in anger to keep an open mind. In due course, we hope that they will return and join hands in the process of rebuilding our party. The storm is over. It is now time for all to close ranks in solidarity and move our state forward.

The late Odumegwu-Ojukwu is perceived as APGA’s guardian spirit  by most members of the party. He was the presidential candidate of the party at some point.
