The youth wing of the apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, has applauded the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Enugu State Council, for inducting former Governor of Enugu State, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, into its prestigious Hall of Fame.
The NUJ Enugu Council, led by Chairman Comrade Obinna Ogbuka, had announced in a statement that Ugwuanyi would be honoured on Thursday in recognition of his sterling performance in office and his longstanding, cordial relationship with journalists in the state.
Reacting to the development, the National President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike, described the honour as “well deserved,” noting that the former governor had consistently demonstrated character, humility, and a deep respect for the media while in office.
Okwu said the recognition was even more remarkable because it came at a time when Ugwuanyi no longer occupied public office.
“This goes to show that whatever we do in the corridors of power is being watched, and history eventually places everyone either in the Book of Infamy or the Book of Fame,” he stated. “In the case of His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, his induction into the Hall of Fame is no accident but a reward for quality service to humanity.”
The Ohanaeze youth leader commended the NUJ for recognizing excellence and for honouring a “man of peace who restored the face of the Enugu Press Centre.”
According to him, the youth body is proud to identify with Ugwuanyi, whom he described as a symbol of peace, humility, dignity, and bold achievements.
“This honour coming from the fourth estate of the realm is significant, and we congratulate him wholeheartedly,” Okwu added.
He further noted that the induction coincides with Ugwuanyi’s recent nomination as an ambassador by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, describing the developments as “a clear testament to the former governor’s enduring legacy and national relevance.”
