NYSC asks Plateau corpers to print new call-up letters

The National Youth Service Corps has directed  the 2021 Batch B Stream 2 prospective corps members initially posted to Plateau State to reprint their call-up letters, UGAMATV  has learnt.

This is coming at a time there is apprehension in the state over renewed attacks and killings.

The directive was contained in a notice posted on the NYSC website and sighted  on Saturday.

The NYSC however did not disclose the reason behind the directive.

While corps members posted to other states have resumed in their respective orientation camps on August 31, 2021, the notice indicated that orientation camp for Plateau State would start on September 6.

The notice, titled, “Important Information, 21 B S11,” read, “All 2021 B Sream 2 prospective corps members posted to Plateau State are to log in to their dashboard to reprint their call-up letters.

“Note that your orientation camp starts on the September 6, 2021,” the NYSC said.

When contacted, the NYSC Deputy Director, Press, Emeka Mgbemena, said he was not aware of the development, promising to seek further information.

“I am not aware. I am currently out of town, but I will seek to refresh for further information,” he said.

72 die In Plateau in one month

Investigations revealed that 72 individuals lost their lives in the ongoing conflicts in Plateau State between August 1, 2021 and August 31, 2021.

The figure was a tally of victims got from media reports and confirmation by security agencies.

On August 1, several buildings were razed, while 12 people were killed in an attack on Tambora in  the Riyom Local Government Area of the state.

On August 14, an attack on travellers at the Rukuba highway in the Jos North Local Government Area left 22 people dead and several others injured.

Three days later, five people were said to have been killed in a fresh attack on Chando-Zrechi village in the Miango District of Bassa Local Government Area.

On August 23, a police inspector and a vigilante were reported dead after an alleged attack by gunmen in Kwo village, Mangu Local Government Area.

Hours later, on August 24, a total of 36 deaths were reportedly recorded when gunmen invaded Yelwa Zangam in Jos in a night raid.

Citing the spate of attacks, the University of Jos suspended its current academic session.

A statement by the institution’s Deputy Registrar, Abdullahi Abdullah, read, “Following the unfortunate security breach that occurred in some parts of Jos, which has made government to impose a 24-hour curfew in Jos North,  management of the University of Jos has approved the suspension of the ongoing second semester examinations for the 2019/2020 academic session.

“Consequently, all examinations earlier scheduled to hold between Monday, August 16 and Saturday, August 21, have been suspended until further notice.”

The deputy registrar, however, gave the assurance that “management is working in collaboration with the security agencies and the government, to ensure that the safety of lives and properties of members of the university community, particularly students, are adequately protected.”
