Nurse arrested, accused of trafficking two children in Imo

The Imo State Police Command has arrested a nurse, Ngozi Eboson, for allegedly selling two children to one Mrs Chinyere Ohanyere, aka Madam Chichi.

A police source, who confided in our correspondent on Monday, said the nurse was arrested in the Owerri West area of the state.

The nurse allegedly bought the children from two different woman, Nkechi and Chikaodi, and sold them to Madam Chichi.

The source said, “The nurse confessed that she bought the children from two girls, Nkechi and Chikaodi, for N500,000 each and sold them to Madam Chichi, who is desperate to keep her marriage.

“She was arrested at New Owerri in Owerri West, where she stayed to carry out the illegal business. Madam Chichi was claiming that she was the one who gave birth to the two babies, but the arrest and confession of the nurse have exposed her lies.”

Our correspondent had reported that the police arrested Madam Chichi for allegedly trafficking twins in August 2021.

The 55-year-old, who was arrested alongside two others, was sighted by our correspondent in the custody of police in Owerri, where she was being interrogated.

The police had handed over the two children to the government after medical examinations allegedly showed that she was not their mother.

The police spokesperson, Micheal Abattam, had told our correspondent that the command was working on arresting other suspects involved in the incident.
