NUPRC to Fully Digitize Operations in 60 Days to Boost Transparency and Efficiency

The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) will complete a full digital transition within 60 days, according to its Chief Executive, Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan. The move aims to enhance transparency, efficiency, and accountability across the commission’s operations.

Eyesan made the disclosure during a courtesy visit by the Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (NEITI), Musa Adar, in Abuja on Monday. She noted that prior digital reforms had already improved compliance, particularly in the collection of royalty payments from oil and gas operators.

“We have set a 60-day programme to digitise all interactions and communications within the Commission. After that period, there will be no paper trail. All transmissions will be electronic, ensuring speed and traceability,” Eyesan said. She added that the default rate for royalty payments, which was high before 2025, has significantly declined since the commission went live on the digital system.

Eyesan also emphasized the importance of deeper collaboration with NEITI to further strengthen transparency in the upstream sector, especially ahead of the 2025 Licensing Round. Adar, in response, encouraged NUPRC to involve NEITI in its operations, warning that strict enforcement of the Petroleum Industry Act is essential to maintain investor confidence.

He further highlighted the need for enhanced data sharing between both agencies and urged active participation in NEITI’s 2026 flagship conference, stressing that inter-agency collaboration is key to sustaining sector reforms.
