The Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, has strongly condemned the brutal killing of unarmed civilians in Yelwata, Guma Local Government Area of Benue State. He called for an immediate and strategic intelligence-led crackdown to bring the attackers to justice.
In a statement released by CSC Afolabi Babawale, the National Public Relations Officer at the NSCDC National Headquarters in Abuja, the CG made his remarks during a visit to the scene of the attack alongside other top security officials for an on-the-spot assessment.
Dr. Audi expressed deep sympathy to the governor and the affected community, assuring them of the Corps’ commitment to ending such acts of violence. He denounced the killing of defenceless women and children, describing the act as barbaric and unjustifiable.
To address the situation, the NSCDC boss directed the Zonal Commander and State Commandant to deploy all available tactical resources—including covert operatives, special forces, and intelligence units—throughout the state. He also emphasized the need for robust collaboration with other security agencies and stakeholders to ensure a coordinated response.
“These killings must stop,” Dr. Audi said. “We need to be strategic, resilient, and decisive. Every unit—from counter-terrorism to intelligence—must be fully mobilized for both covert and overt operations.”
He reaffirmed the Corps’ resolve to align with President Bola Tinubu’s directive that those behind the heinous attack be apprehended and held accountable.
