No Plans to Leave PDP, Atiku Insists on Coalition to Oust APC

Atiku Abubakar, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has refuted claims that he is planning to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC), insisting that he remains committed to the PDP and to forming a coalition to unseat the ruling party in 2027.

During a meeting with women members of the PDP Board of Trustees (BoT), Atiku emphasized the need for a broad-based alliance to challenge the APC and rebuild the country.

Atiku maintained that the coalition effort is not merely a political manoeuvre but a critical step toward national recovery. He cited historical precedents, recalling the alliance between the National Party of Nigeria (NPN) and the Nigeria Peoples Party (NPP) during the Second Republic, which he described as the NPN-NPP accord, to underscore the viability of coalitions.

According to Atiku, such a coalition would not undermine the identity or structure of the PDP, adding that the pan-Nigerian movement he is building involves stakeholders from diverse political backgrounds and regions, all committed to reclaiming the country.

“The coalition movement is not just a political strategy, but a necessity to challenge the ruling party and rebuild the country,” Atiku said, assuring the PDP women that he has no plans to leave the party.
