The Ogun State Government has officially implemented a zero-tolerance policy against any form of assault or intimidation targeting teachers across the state.
The announcement was made on Friday by Biodun Sanyaolu, Chairman of the Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), who emphasized the government’s unwavering commitment to ensuring a secure and respectful environment for educators.
According to Sanyaolu, the state’s decisive stance follows a troubling rise in cases of violence and harassment against teachers. He called for collective responsibility from parents, students, and community members in protecting and respecting the teaching profession.
“We wish to state clearly and unequivocally that Ogun State maintains a zero-tolerance policy for any form of assault or intimidation against any teacher,” Sanyaolu declared.
“This is a commitment we take seriously, as the safety and dignity of our teaching force are essential for maintaining the quality and integrity of our public education system.”
He added that anyone found guilty of assaulting a teacher would face the full weight of the law, stressing that no one would be exempted from accountability.
The TESCOM boss noted that the implementation of the policy aims not only to deter potential offenders but also to revive a culture of respect toward educators, ensuring that teachers can focus on their vital role of molding young minds in a safe environment.
“This decisive enforcement underscores our commitment to protecting those who dedicate their lives to educating and nurturing the future of our state,” he said.
Sanyaolu urged parents and community leaders to collaborate with schools in promoting awareness and appreciation for the teaching profession, adding that respect for educators remains key to achieving a stronger and more supportive educational system in Ogun State.
