Nnamdi Kanu submits defence documents in terrorism trial

Biafra agitator, Nnamdi Kanu has complied with the Federal High Court in Abuja’s directive to open his defence in the terrorism charges filed against him by the Federal Government.

Kanu, who had previously resisted proceeding with his defence, began filing his defence documents on Friday inside the courtroom, in line with an order by Justice James Omotosho.

Following complaints raised by the defendant regarding the process, Justice Omotosho directed that the court’s registry be temporarily relocated to the courtroom. This allowed Kanu to complete the filing process without further delay.

Counsel for the Federal Government, Adegboyega Awomolo (SAN), confirmed to the court that the prosecution was prepared to receive the defence documents from Kanu and respond appropriately.

The defence submission was still ongoing as the judge stood down proceedings for one hour to allow the process to be completed.

Kanu had consistently refused to open his defence until this point, arguing that the prosecution must first identify the specific terrorism law he allegedly violated before he could proceed.

This development follows earlier reports that the court had given Nnamdi Kanu a final opportunity to enter his defence or risk having the chance forfeited. Kanu had previously claimed he was deceived into pleading to a false charge.
