Tensions flared in Abuja on Tuesday as workers under the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) staged a protest at the Federal Ministry of Finance headquarters, demanding the immediate payment of outstanding arrears, allowances, and other emoluments.
Protesters, though unwilling to speak directly to the press, carried placards expressing frustration over the government’s failure to meet financial obligations to its workforce. The demonstration caused a major disruption at the Ministry, with staff and visitors temporarily barred from entering the premises.
A civil servant at the scene confirmed the disruption, saying:
“You can see that our office has been blocked. We don’t even know the full reason yet.”
As of the time of this report, the Ministry of Finance had not released an official statement addressing the protest or outlining steps to resolve the workers’ grievances.
This development adds to growing unrest among public sector workers nationwide over delayed wages, poor working conditions, and unfulfilled agreements.
