Nigerian teenager sentenced to life imprisonment for murder in UK

A Nigerian teenager who murdered a 21‑year‑old man has been given a life sentence in the United Kingdom.

Jackson Uwagboe, 19, of Hamilton Street, Lewisham, fled to Nigeria after the “vicious attack” in south-east London.

Uwagboe was convicted on 10 February at the Old Bailey of m8rdering Robert Robinson on 6 June 2024 in Deptford.

He was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 21 years on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, for the m8rder, as well as robbery and possession of a bladed article.

Two other men, Ryan Wedderburn, 18, and Kirk Harris, 19, were convicted of Robinson’s murder in May last year and jailed for life.

They were ordered to serve minimum terms of 23 years and 22 years and nine months respectively.

Robinson suffered 12 serious st@b wounds in the attack, including defensive injuries indicating he tried to protect himself from the blows, the Metropolitan Police said.

He d!ed at the scene on Carteret Way, Deptford.

The force said all three of the k!llers ran from the scene and Uwagboe fled the country.

He returned to the UK on 25 February 2025 and was arrested at Gatwick Airport on suspicion of m8rder, the Met Police said.

Det Insp Neil Tovey, who led the investigation, said: “Robert was subjected to a brutal and sustained attack by a group of men armed with knives. He was unarmed, already wounded, and on the ground when Uwagboe attacked him. His claims of self-defence were entirely without foundation.”

He said the verdicts marked “justice for Robert Robinson and his family”, who had endured two trials as a result of Uwagboe fleeing the country.
