Nigerian Minister Explains Why Abuja-Keffi-Akwanga-Makurdi Highway is Tolls After Completion

Nigerian Minister of Works Dave Umahi, has explained that the 227.2 kilometre Abuja-Keffi-Akwanga-Makurdi highway is being tolled after its completion because of a public-private partnership.
He disclosed this at the 2025 Ministerial Briefing in Abuja on Friday.

According to him, outside the project being a PPP, the toll is required to guarantee its maintenance.

“It is a PPP contract. Part of the agreement is that it will be tolled. The two carriageways have been completed. In the past we have built roads; this is the first time we are constructing a toll gate. The toll is to ensure the road is maintained.”

Ugamatv reports that Umahi said 260 President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s palliative projects worth N208 billion are 90 percent completed.
