The Nigerian Embassy in Doha has warned Nigerians residing in Qatar to remain alert following renewed hostilities between Israel and Iran, which have heightened tensions across the Middle East.
In a statement released late Saturday, the embassy said the advisory became necessary due to the rapidly changing security climate in the region. It urged Nigerian nationals in Qatar to formally register with the mission and strictly comply with safety instructions issued by Qatari authorities.
Citizens were directed to forward their full name, residential address in Qatar, phone number, and copies of their international passport or Qatar Identification (QID) card to the embassy’s official email to enable proper documentation and tracking.
The mission also advised Nigerians to remain vigilant, avoid unnecessary movement, and rely solely on verified official sources for updates. It assured the community that it is closely monitoring developments and will provide further information when necessary.
The warning comes amid fresh military exchanges after joint strikes by the United States and Israel reportedly targeted multiple locations in Iran. Israeli authorities described the operation as a pre-emptive action aimed at weakening Iran’s offensive capabilities, while Iran responded with drone and missile attacks directed at Israeli territory.
As tensions intensified, regional countries have begun taking precautionary measures. The United Arab Emirates temporarily shut portions of its airspace, leading to flight disruptions and tightened security at major airports, reflecting growing concerns for residents and travellers.
The embassy’s advisory reinforces the need for caution, encouraging Nigerians to maintain close contact with the mission and adhere strictly to local directives until stability returns.
Nigeria’s guidance mirrors broader federal advisories urging citizens across Gulf states and Iran to exercise restraint, limit movement, and prioritise safety as the situation unfolds.
