Nigeria records 559 new COVID-19 cases, five deaths IN 15 states

Lagos, the Federal Capital Territory and 13 other states reported 559 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, according to figures released on Thursday by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control.

The health agency also reported five COVID-19 related deaths. 

The NCDC disclosed this on its official website on Thursday.

According to the agency, the 559 new cases were recorded from Lagos, the FCT and 13 other states.

Lagos recorded the highest number of new infections with 232 cases, Rivers – 83, Enugu – 66, Oyo – 28, Kaduna – 25, FCT – 24, Delta – 22, Akwa Ibom – 19, Kwara – 18, Ekiti – 13, Bayelsa – 9, Cross River – 9, Ogun – 6, Kano – 3 and Gombe – 2

The health agency said the 559 new COVID-19 infections have brought the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country to 197,046.

However, 185,393 COVID-19 patients have recovered and have been discharged in the country, the agency said.

With five COVID-19 related deaths reported, the death toll from the virus has risen to 2,578 NCDC said.

It added that a multi-sectoral national Emergency Operations Centre, activated at Level 2, had continued to coordinate the national response activities.
