A former presidential candidate of Nigeria under the Young Progressive Party (YPP), Kingsley Moghalu has stated that Nigeria has underutilized the services of her technocrats, saying that this differentiates Nigeria from Developed countries.
He made this statement while addressing Apex Igbo Socio-cultural group Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, during his visit on Tuesday.
A press release signed by the group’s Spokesman Chief Alex Chiedozie Ogbonnia, gives the details of the visit.
It reads;
The President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Ambassador Professor George Obiozor, on Tuesday, May 18th, 2021, played host to Professor Kingsley Moghalu at the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Secretariat, GRA, Enugu.
Professor Obiozor who was visibly elated by the visit was in his full elements.
He qualified Moghalu as a genius; a political economist of world renown, former United Nations bureaucrat and one of the best technocrats whose services are greatly needed in order to salvage Nigeria from its present predicaments.
Obiozor highlighted the place of intellect and experience in the art of governance and cited the invaluable roles Moghalu played as the Deputy Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria during the administration of President Musa Yaradua.
Obiozor expressed satisfaction that Moghalu is a moral edifice who served meritoriously and left the Central Bank of Nigeria untainted.
Earlier in his speech, Professor Moghalu stated that he came to congratulate Professor Obiozor for a deserving victory as the President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide. He remarked that Obiozor is an erudite scholar, experienced diplomat with a deep understanding of Nigeria.
He explained that, to him, a visit to Ohanaeze Ndigbo is homecoming and that he has been consulting with eminent stakeholders in Nigeria with a view to evolving a polity that guarantees the well-being of our future generations.
The former Presidential candidate of Young Progressive Party (YPP) lamented that Nigeria does not make adequate use of their talented technocrats and that is the fundamental difference between the developed and the underdeveloped economies.
The political economist used the occasion to present to Obiozor his latest book-“Emerging Africa: How the Global Economy’s ‘Last Frontier’ Can Prosper and Matter”. According to the reflective scholar, “the book lays out a road map for the economic transformation of the African continent, including Nigeria, through a sound understanding of inclusive capitalist philosophy and the power of science, technology, innovation and the consistent application of such understanding to the economic policy of African countries”.
In his remarks, the Secretary General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Ambassador Okey Emuchay qualified Prof. Moghalu as a visionary whose hallmarks revolve on integrity, hardwork and tenacity.
Emuchay used the occasion to recapitulate the accomplishments of the Obiozor led executive within four months in office; some of which are the strong amplification of the Igbo agenda in 2023, committee on reconciliation and harmonisation of various Igbo interest groups, managing the Lagos State-Ndigbo crisis and reinforcing the inter-ethnic solidarity between the Igbo on one hand and the PANDEV, Afenifere, Middle Belt, Arewa, among others.
It was noted the recent Asaba Resolution by the Southern Governors is a product of consistent and focused Ohanaeze position in the context of Nigerian project.
Ohanaeze Ndigbo has never wavered in its demand for restructuring, ban on open grazing, national dialogue, power rotation to the South East and sustainable fiscal federalism.
