Niger State Shuts Down IBB University

Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago of Niger State has ordered the immediate closure of Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University (IBBU), Lapai, following recent security incidents and the tragic loss of lives within the university community.

This directive was announced in a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Abubakar Usman, who emphasized that the move was necessary to prioritize the safety of students and staff.

“The Niger State government is deeply saddened by the recent incidents. Measures are being taken to address the situation swiftly,” the statement read.

Usman urged members of the university community to remain calm, vigilant, and cooperative as the government works to restore order and security.

He also assured the public that investigations into the breaches are ongoing, and the government is committed to identifying and prosecuting those responsible.

“The government remains resolute in its duty to protect lives and property and to uphold peace and stability across the state,” he added.

The university will remain closed until further notice.
