Youth leaders from the Niger Delta region on Wednesday staged a protest at the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) Towers in Abuja, demanding the resignation of the Group Chief Executive Officer, Engr. Bashir Bayo Ojulari, over alleged corruption and mismanagement.
The protesters, who arrived at the facility as early as 6 a.m., blocked the main entrance and exit gates of the NNPCL headquarters, effectively grounding movement in and out of the building.
Carrying banners with bold inscriptions, the youths chanted solidarity songs, accompanied by traditional drummers, a local orchestra, and loud music blaring from speakers mounted on a truck stationed nearby.
They also called for the appointment of an indigene of the Niger Delta region as the next GCEO of the oil company, insisting that the region deserves fair representation in the management of its natural resources.
