Niger Delta youths fault delay in implementation of NDDC report

A group of Niger Delta youths have frowned on the continued delay of the implementation of the forensic audits done on the Niger Delta Development Commission.

According to the group, the move was to let those indicted in the report off the hook.

The youths under the guidance of the South-South Youths Initiative demanded the immediate implementation of the report.

Speaking during a protest in front of the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs in Abuja on Wednesday, the leader of the group, Imeabe Oscar, said the silence on the recommendation of the report was questionable.

He said, “After the forensic audit we were expecting those indicted to be exposed, unfortunately, they have decided not to do anything on the audit and cover them up. Why the delay if they were not planning to free the people indicted? The entire exercise has amounted to a waste of resources and efforts.”

Oscar also called for the resignation of the minister, accusing him of nepotism among others.

Akapibo should resign, he has failed. If he refuses, the president should sack him. As we speak, we have it on good ground that the minister is advising the president to merge the Niger Delta Development Commission to the ministry.

“He should step aside for the president to form the board and remove the Sole Administrator, there is nowhere in the act that established the NDDC where it allows for a sole administrator, Buhari should wade in and ensure the NDDC Governing Board is inaugurated. The minister has employed 1000 persons from Akwa Ibom State, we are saying no to that.

Efforts to get the reaction of the Media aide of the Minister, Anietie Ekong, were not successful as calls placed to his line were not answered. Ekong has yet to respond to a message sent to his line as of the time of filing this report.
