In a bold step to reduce Nigeria’s dependency on foreign healthcare, President Bola Tinubu has inaugurated a world-class hospital in Kabusa, a suburb of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
The African Medical Centre of Excellence (AMCE) — a multi-million-dollar healthcare facility — was formally commissioned on Thursday by Vice President Kashim Shettima, who represented the President at the event.
Constructed with support from the Africa Export-Import Bank (AFREXIM), the hospital aims to significantly boost Nigeria’s healthcare system and reduce the need for medical travel abroad.
The AMCE is being developed in partnership with King’s College Hospital, London, and other global healthcare institutions. It is expected to serve over 350,000 patients within its first five years of operation.
The facility is equipped with cutting-edge technology and will specialize in areas such as oncology, cardiology, haematology, and general surgery — all in line with international best practices.
The initiative is part of the administration’s broader commitment to strengthening local healthcare delivery, improving accessibility, and building investor confidence in Nigeria’s medical infrastructure.
