The National Examinations Council (NECO) has cautioned teachers and members of the public against fraudulent websites demanding payment from applicants seeking appointment as examination supervisors.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by the council’s Acting Director of Information and Public Relations, Azeez Sani, NECO clarified that it does not charge any fee for applications related to supervisor recruitment ahead of the 2026 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) Internal, scheduled to commence on June 15.
The council revealed that some fake online platforms have been requesting applicants to pay money before submitting their academic credentials. NECO stressed that such demands are fraudulent and should be disregarded.
According to the council, the recruitment process has now transitioned from an analogue system to a fully electronic platform, in line with recommendations by the ministerial committee on improving the quality of examinations in Nigeria. The new automated system is designed to eliminate fraud, reduce examination malpractice, and ensure a transparent and merit-based recruitment process.
“NECO wishes to inform the public that the council does not request any payment from teachers applying to serve as examination supervisors,” the statement said.
The examination body noted that only pensionable teachers on Grade Level 12 and above, who are at least 30 years old, are eligible to apply. Interested applicants are advised to use only the official recruitment portal: supervisor.neco.gov.ng.
NECO disclosed that it plans to recruit about 22,000 supervisors for the 2026 SSCE Internal examination to guarantee the smooth conduct of the exercise nationwide.
The council urged prospective applicants to ignore any website demanding payment and to rely solely on its official portal for all recruitment activities.
