NDLEA Seizes 112kg of Cannabis After Accident on Zaria – Kano Highway

The Kano State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has recovered 150 blocks and three sacks of cannabis sativa, weighing 112 kilograms, following a road accident on the Zaria–Kano highway.

In a statement on Saturday, September 6, 2025, the command’s spokesperson, Sadiq Muhammad Maigatari, said the incident occurred around 6 a.m. near Gadar Tamburawa.

According to him, NDLEA patrol officers, who were close to the scene, rushed to provide first aid after a Volkswagen Golf collided with a truck.

“Officers immediately rushed to the scene to render first aid and effect rescues. They removed the windscreen and a window of the Golf to extricate the driver and forced open the other door to remove the passenger. The one on the passenger side attempted to flee immediately after opening the door but was apprehended by officers,” the statement read.

During a search of the vehicle, operatives discovered the drugs concealed inside. The Golf driver reportedly confessed that he was working for a consignor and had previously made similar deliveries within and outside Kano.

He also admitted to using one-way routes to evade NDLEA checkpoints while transporting cannabis into the state.

The suspect is currently receiving medical treatment under custody, while the truck driver sustained a fracture from the collision.

“This incident involved two offenses: one-way driving leading to a collision and trafficking in narcotics,” NDLEA emphasized, warning members of the public to desist from drug trafficking and to report suspicious movements to the agency.
