The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD), University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH) chapter, has confirmed plans to join the nationwide warning strike declared by the association’s national secretariat.
In an interview on Thursday in Ilorin, the chapter president, Dr. M. O. Awodun, said the UITH branch will comply with the directive once the Federal Government fails to meet NARD’s demands.
“At the moment, only the Abuja chapter is on strike, which commenced on Monday,” Dr. Awodun clarified. “But following the decision at the e-NEC meeting held Wednesday, all chapters will embark on a 5-day warning strike from Friday, September 12, 2025.”
A statement issued Thursday by NARD’s General Secretary, Agbor Affiong, confirmed that the nationwide action is aimed at pressing home long-standing demands for improved working conditions, adequate power supply in hospitals, recognition of certificates, and better remuneration, among other issues.
The association has directed all centres to formally notify their hospital managements and sustain pressure for the collective demands to be addressed.
If carried out, the strike is expected to disrupt services across public hospitals nationwide.
