Awgu, Enugu State — In a clarion call to deepen democratic participation and civic responsibility, the Executive Chairman of Awgu Local Government Area, Hon. Uche Okolo, has urged Ndi Awgu to seize the golden opportunity of the ongoing voters registration exercise being conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Through his Special Adviser on General Media and Publicity, Hon. Tochukwu Chukwu, the Council Chairman emphasized the critical importance of the Permanent Voter’s Card (PVC), describing it as the people’s “voice and pathway to their collective future.”
“NDI AWGU, your PVC is your voice. The road to your future is now,” the Chairman declared, urging every eligible resident who has not yet registered to take advantage of the exercise.
According to INEC, the physical voter registration is currently ongoing at the INEC Office in Awgu Local Government Area, Mondays through Fridays, from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm daily. The exercise is completely free of charge.
The Chairman reminded citizens that registration is not just a privilege but a civic responsibility. He noted that voter registration guarantees participation in shaping governance and determining leadership at all levels of government.
“This is the time for Ndi Awgu, especially first-time voters and those who have not been captured in the INEC database, to rise to the call of history. Democracy thrives when the people participate fully, and your vote is the key,” he said.
The Chairman encouraged community leaders, youth groups, women, and civil society organizations in Awgu to sensitize and mobilize residents to ensure a massive turnout during the exercise.
With this move, the Awgu Council leadership continues to align with the broader vision of building an inclusive, participatory democracy where every citizen has a voice and a stake in governance.
