The Nasarawa State Government has suspended the 2025 Electoral Congress of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Nasarawa State Chapter, originally scheduled for Saturday, May 10, in response to an interim court injunction.
In a statement released by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, Dr. Ibrahim Adamu Alhassan, the suspension was prompted by a ruling from a State High Court in Keffi following an ex-parte motion filed by Muhammad Jaafar Loko and seven others. The plaintiffs are challenging the legality of the scheduled congress.
Dr. Alhassan further disclosed that a separate legal dispute is ongoing at the State High Court in Obi, where former NYCN Chairman, Comrade Idris Ojoko, is contesting his removal from office, claiming it was unlawful.
“In line with the rule of law and to maintain peace and order, the Ministry has suspended the planned NYCN electoral congress until further notice,” the statement read. It added that the decision reflects Governor Abdullahi Sule’s commitment to legality, peace, and due process.
The suspension aims to prevent a breach of court directives and to uphold the credibility of youth leadership elections in the state.
As of the time of reporting, neither the NYCN Nasarawa State Chapter nor the parties involved in the legal proceedings had issued official statements.
