Adamu Lokoja, the lawmaker representing Suleja, Gurara, and Tafa Federal Constituency in Niger State, has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Lokoja was formally received by the APC leadership at the party’s state secretariat in Minna, with State Chairman Aminu Bobi and Niger East Zonal Chairman Danladi Ahijoh present at the ceremony.
Ahijoh described the lawmaker’s defection as a strategic move, calling it an “investment for politicians who want to partake in the future of tomorrow.” He attributed Lokoja’s decision to the “transformational changes” under the APC-led government.
Lokoja is one of three PDP members elected to the 10th National Assembly from Niger State. His defection adds to a growing list of opposition lawmakers crossing over to the APC, a trend fueled by reported internal crises and lack of cohesion within the PDP.
This follows a similar wave in Katsina State, where three PDP lawmakers recently joined the APC, also citing long-standing internal party conflicts.
The series of defections underscores the mounting challenges faced by the PDP in retaining its structure and relevance as the political landscape shifts ahead of upcoming elections.
