NAFDAC Seizes Banned and Expired Products Worth Over N1.5 Billion at Lagos Trade Fair Market

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has confiscated banned, expired, and unregistered products valued at more than N1.5 billion in a sweeping enforcement operation at the cosmetics section of the Lagos Trade Fair market.

The operation, led by the Director of Investigation and Enforcement, Dr. Martins Iluyomade, uncovered multiple warehouses filled with cosmetics, food items, and other NAFDAC-regulated products that either lacked proper registration or had no date markings. A trailer-load of such items was evacuated, while another trailer carrying cosmetics was intercepted. Although the driver managed to escape, NAFDAC officials secured the vehicle.

This enforcement exercise is part of the agency’s ongoing nationwide clampdown on unsafe and unregulated consumer goods. NAFDAC emphasized the importance of public vigilance and encouraged Nigerians to report suspicious products as part of efforts to safeguard public health. The agency described the seizure as one of the largest in recent times.
