The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has alerted Nigerians to the circulation of fake Type 1 and 2 batches of Postinor 2 (Levonorgestrel 0.75mg) in the country.
UGAMA TV reports that the agency raised the alarm in a statement published on its official website on Tuesday.
The alert followed a report from the Society for Family Health (SFH), the Marketing Authorization Holder (MAH), which confirmed that it did not import the counterfeit product.
According to NAFDAC, distinctions have been made between the genuine and the fake versions of Postinor 2 to help consumers and health workers identify the counterfeit batches. The agency urged Nigerians to be vigilant, purchase medicines only from licensed pharmacies, and report any suspected counterfeit products to the nearest NAFDAC office.
