Suspended Senator representing Kogi West, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has alleged that her official phone line was cloned and is being used by unknown individuals to impersonate her and intimidate prominent Nigerians.
In a petition submitted to the Director of the National Cybercrime Centre of the Nigeria Police Force in Abuja, through her legal representatives, M.J. Numa and Partners, dated June 4, 2025, Akpoti-Uduaghan expressed concern that her identity was being fraudulently used to place unsolicited calls and send messages to high-profile individuals.
The petition, titled “Disclaimer Regarding Illegal Cloning and Unauthorized Use of Our Client’s Phone Number”, and signed by Barr. Michael Jonathan Numa, stated that the perpetrators are employing sophisticated cyber tools in what appears to be a coordinated attempt to compromise the senator’s identity, damage her reputation, and mislead recipients of these communications.
“This development is not only disturbing but also represents a gross violation of her privacy and a potential threat to national security,” the petition read.
Senator Natasha listed several prominent figures allegedly contacted through the cloned line, including:
Senator Ben Obi, former presidential adviser;
Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, former Edo State Governor and ex-APC National Chairman;
Chief Allen Onyema, CEO of Air Peace;
Hon. Emmanuel Ukon, and
Seun Okinbaloye, journalist with Channels Television.
According to the petition, the senator also received a call from the Area Commander of the Maitama District in Abuja, who claimed to be returning her earlier call—one she never made. Similarly, Chief Ifedayo Adams Adedipe, SAN, reportedly received a call from a number impersonating Senator Natasha.
She categorically disowned all such messages and calls, urging the public and recipients of any such communications allegedly from her to treat them with skepticism unless personally verified.
Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan emphasized her willingness to cooperate fully with investigators and has offered to submit her devices for forensic examination to aid the investigation and bring the perpetrators to justice.
