‘My Brother Made a Mistake’: Wike on Amaechi’s ADC Presidential Bid

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike has said that his former principal, Chibuike Amaechi joined the African Democratic Congress, ADC, because he did not call him to seek his advice before making the decision.

Wike, a former governor of Rivers State, who worked under Amaechi as the Chief of Staff of the Governor, said he would have asked the former Minister of Transport not to join the ADC.

Amaechi was one of the notable Nigerians who joined the coalition party, the ADC and declared his interest for the presidency in 2027.

However, Amaechi lost the primary election of the ADC to former vice president, Atiku Abubakar, who is now the party’s flag-bearer for the general election.

After the primary elections, Amaechi had rejected the results, alleging widespread electoral malpractice and irregularities. He vowed to challenge the result but has been silent ever since Atiku paid him a visit at his home in Abuja.

Meanwhile, Amaechi and Wike are widely regarded as one of the worst political enemies of this dispensation.

However, the FCT Minister said he would have helped Amaechi, whom he called his brother, to avoid the embarrassment of contesting against Atiku in the ADC, insisting that there was no way the party’s national Chairman, David Mark, would have conducted free and fair primaries.

In his media chat on Monday, Wike said, “Amaechi is my brother. I served under his administration. And when I saw that he was running…I saw the setup. If he had called me before joining the ADC, I would have told him, ‘don’t go there.

“It was very clear. No transparency or due process. When I saw the setup, in ADC, and I saw David Mark, I laughed. When you’ve worked with people you know who’s who, who would do what.

“That party was Atiku’s setup, hundred percent. You can’t set a trap for me. My brother Amaechi made a mistake. He was in too much of a hurry. He was carried away by people who were shouting, ‘this government is doing well,’…”
