The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has thrown its weight behind the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC)’s proposed bill seeking to ban preaching and hawking inside commercial vehicles.

In a statement signed by its Executive Director, Professor Ishaq Akintola, the group described the proposed legislation, currently before the National Assembly, as a positive step towards improving safety and order in public transportation.

MURIC argued that preaching inside commercial buses can distract drivers, increasing the risk of road accidents, while also having the potential to trigger disputes and disrupt public peace.

According to the organisation, the proposed law will promote decorum and create a safer environment for commuters.

Akintola urged members of the National Assembly to give the bill speedy consideration, stressing that its passage would help reduce road crashes and maintain peace in commercial vehicles.
