Move Together or Resign’: Kano Commissioner Sets Ultimatum for Disagreeing Deputy Governor

The Kano State Commissioner for Information, Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, has called on the Deputy Governor Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo to resign from office.

Waiya made the call during a special programme on Muhasa Radio, following the recent political development involving Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.

The commissioner explained that the governor and his deputy were elected on a joint ticket, stressing that both officials are expected to belong to the same political party.

His comments came after the governor defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), while the deputy governor remained aligned with Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).

“The system of a governor and deputy governor is one ticket; they move together,” Waiya said.

“The governor chooses his running mate, so they are expected to stay on the same path and in the same party.”

He added that if the deputy governor does not agree with the governor’s new political direction, stepping aside would be the most honourable option.

“If someone says he will not follow this journey, then we expect him to resign,” the commissioner stated.

“If you say you don’t agree with your leader, your integrity should guide you to step down.”

Waiya also hinted that the recent political realignment could help resolve the long-running Kano Emirate crisis, suggesting that unity within the government would make reconciliation easier.

“I assure you that very soon, the Kano government will resolve the issue of the Kano Emirate because we are now one,” he said,.

He added that some traditional leaders may choose to step down or embrace reconciliation.
