The construction of the Mgbowo Dam, UGAMATV learnt was initiated by a permanent secretary of the ministry of water resources, Dr. Casmir Ojioke in 2004, however, the construction was not completed then.

According to Okechukwu, “In 2017 /2018, I got a delegation of Mgbowo indigenes, in my Abuja residence, prior to then, I had no idea of the status of the Mgbowo dam, they made a request that the dam be completed, after my liaison with the Senator, we told them to make enquiries with the contractors to ascertain the challenges, they did, reported that the dam has no spillway, hence, its level could not be controlled, as at then, two lives were already lost therein.
After our deliberations, an Intervention of one hundred million Naira, was initiated to construct the spill way. However, recently, I began to receive rumours of looting Billions of Naira which was meant for the dam.”
The Monarchs of the Two autonomous communities in Mgbowo, Igwe Engr. John Ibeh (Ohabuenyi II of Ekpulambo Mgbowo) and Igwe Gregory Ituma (Onyima II of Ekpulato Mgbowo), including the Traditional Prime Minister of Ekpulambo Mgbowo

The Ugbo community, being a part of Awgu local government area, has a major challenge of locating underground water, same as communities in Aninri local government Area.
Owing to this, Ekweremadu as well as Okechukwu has thought out the plan of remedying this challenge, which is to create water above the ground, hence the creation of Dams in several strategic places in Awgu and Aninri local government area, such as the Ugbo dam, Ivo Dam etc.

According to Engr. Ivoke, the presiding Engineer of the Water-for-all initiative, the Ugbo dam is located in a place with an enhancing topography, with the tendency of attracting tremendous development and innovations for the hemisphere.
Okechukwu in many words, expressed his fulfilment with the emergence of this dam. “Apart from providing an alternative water source for our people, he said, this dam will open better economic corridors for our people, as it will attract tourism, recreation, fishing, Agricultural activities etc.

Throwing more light on the misconception, Ekweremadu recalled that a late traditional leader of Agbogugu, had commissioned a geological survey of the grounds, which led to the inference that water, can truly be obtained underground, which had motivated the citing of several functional boreholes in the town with water fit for drinking.
This he said was to restore ease and vitality to the people of Agbogugu, as water is life.
