Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has faulted the Senate’s position on the Electoral Act, warning that the inclusion of both manual and electronic transmission of election results could create confusion.
Speaking on Tuesday after paying a visit to former military President, General Ibrahim Babangida (rtd), in Minna, Niger State, alongside Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, Atiku said Nigerians had anticipated a clear provision for real-time electronic transmission of results at all stages of elections.
According to him, the combination of electronic and manual transmission as proposed by the Senate could undermine the credibility of the electoral process and potentially lead to chaos.
“This is not about my ambition or contesting elections,” Atiku said. “It is about the desire of Nigerians to have electronic transmission of election results.”
