Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has stirred mixed reactions after announcing that he has joined the Rainbow Coalition, a political movement founded by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The governor made the announcement on Wednesday during the foundation-laying ceremony of the RIVEN Medical Industries Project in Rumuosi, Port Harcourt.

Speaking at the event, Fubara declared his support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid and endorsed House Minority Leader, Kingsley “OK” Chinda, as the next governor of Rivers State.

“I am supporting President Tinubu for the Presidency and OK Chinda to be the next Governor of Rivers State. I am part of the Rainbow Coalition, and I’m back to my political family,” he said.

Fubara also appealed to Rivers residents and political stakeholders to put aside their differences and embrace peace, urging them to support his decision in the interest of the state’s long-term stability and development.

His announcement, however, sparked divided reactions on social media. While some users described the move as a pragmatic political decision, others expressed disappointment, arguing that it marked a significant shift from the position that earned him their support.
