Missing 24-year-old woman found dead in Bauchi

The Bauchi State Police Command has launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the d3ath of a 24-year-old woman, identified as Fatima Salihu Mohammed.

The spokesperson of the command, CSP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, who made this known in a statement on Wednesday, October 1, 2025 said a formal complaint of a missing person was received from one Salihu Mohammed Chimo, 62, of the Federal Polytechnic Staff Quarters, Bauchi on September 25.

Chimo had reported at the ‘E’ Divisional Police Headquarters that his daughter, Fatima, left home on September 24, 2025, at about 10:00 a.m. to buy groceries at Birshin Fulani but never returned.

“Upon receipt of the report, the command drafted a team of detectives, including personnel with surveillance expertise, and deployed technological tools to trace her whereabouts,” he said.

The command received a distress call from the village head of Birshin Fulani, who relayed information from one Bashar Adamu.

Adamu, while working on his father’s maize farm located within the Federal Polytechnic Staff Quarters, perceived an unpleasant odour. Upon searching, he discovered a decomposing female body.

“On receipt of the information, a team of detectives led by the DPO of ‘E’ Division, CSP Yahaya Yunusa, visited the scene, cordoned off the area, and identified the corpse as that of the missing Fatima Salihu Mohammed,” Wakil said.

He disclosed that the deceased was found with her bags and the groceries she had earlier purchased by her side.

“The corpse was moved to the Federal Polytechnic’s clinic, where her death was confirmed by a medical practitioner. Her remains were later released to her family for burial,” the statement added.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has constituted a team of homicide detectives to carry out a thorough and methodical investigation to ensure justice.

“The Commissioner has assured that the investigation will be evidence-driven, eliminating all uncertainties and ensuring that justice is administered in line with established protocols,” Wakil added.
