Manchester United sued by former player Axel Tuanzebe

Former Manchester United defender, Axel Tuanzebe has filed a clinical negligence lawsuit against the club, claiming he received improper medical advice during his time at Old Trafford.

According to reports from Sky Sports, Tuanzebe lodged the claim on July 9, alleging negligence tied to medical decisions that impacted his career.

The 27-year-old, who left United two years ago after his contract expired, came through the club’s youth system and made 37 appearances for the first team. However, his progress was repeatedly hampered by injuries.

His injury troubles began in 2019 with a hip problem sustained during the warm-up before a high-profile clash against Liverpool. Later that year, he suffered another setback in a Carabao Cup victory over Colchester United, ruling him out for the remainder of the season.

The following campaign started with a foot injury, and more fitness issues meant he didn’t return to full training until January 2023. Soon after, he was loaned to Stoke City in an effort to regain match sharpness.

Despite these struggles, Tuanzebe rebuilt his career with Ipswich Town, where he became a key player, making over 40 appearances and helping the club secure promotion to the Premier League in the 2023/24 season. Last month, he joined Burnley on a free transfer after rejecting a contract extension at Ipswich.

Now a DR Congo international, Tuanzebe’s lawsuit against Manchester United underscores the growing scrutiny around how football clubs handle player injuries and long-term medical care.
