Residents of Ndiolumbe autonomous community in Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area of Abia State have been thrown into mourning following the killing of an indigene, Mr. Ukaegbu Ogii.
The victim was allegedly stabbed in the neck by his kinsman, Okwudili Mbama, popularly known as Nkume, who accused him of having an extra-marital affair with his wife, Mercy Mbama.
A community source told DAILY POST that the suspect, who hails from Umuota village in Ndiolumbe, fled immediately after the incident to evade arrest. The source also revealed that the suspect had earlier attacked the victim weeks before, inflicting a head injury over the same allegation despite intervention by community members.
The incident has sparked tension within the community as residents mourn the loss.
Confirming the development, the Abia State Police Command said the case was reported at the Omoba Police Divisional Headquarters on April 5 by the suspect’s wife.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Maureen Chinaka, stated that detectives visited the scene and rushed the victim to the hospital, where he was confirmed dead by a medical doctor.
She added that the body has been deposited in a morgue for autopsy, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspect. Investigations into the incident are still in progress.
