Life of Service Remembered: Awgu Honours Late Mr. John Uwakwe Nwafor with Solemn Funeral Rites and Rich Cultural Displays

Awgu, Enugu State —

The life and legacy of Late Mr. John Uwakwe Nwafor were solemnly celebrated as a funeral Mass, grave blessing, and cultural reception were held in his honour at Awgu Town, Awgu Local Government Area of Enugu State.

The funeral Mass, which marked the spiritual highlight of the ceremonies, was concelebrated by Catholic priests, with Rev. Fr. Chinazondu Mabakama delivering the homily. In his sermon, the cleric reflected on the transient nature of human existence, urging Christians to embrace lives anchored on faith, integrity, moral uprightness, and selfless service to humanity.

Speaking on behalf of the family, the deceased’s son, Comrade  Ezekiel Nwafor, described his late father as a man of exemplary character whose life was defined by discipline, honesty, peace, and love for others. He noted that the values upheld by his father left indelible lessons not only for the family but also for the wider community.

According to him, Late Mr. John Uwakwe Nwafor stood firmly for peace and moral rectitude, adding that the family remains committed to sustaining his legacy by upholding the principles and ideals he lived for.

Following the religious rites, guests were hosted to a reception at an open field, where vibrant cultural displays added colour and cultural depth to the event. Traditional dance troupes, including women cultural groups, thrilled the audience, while the energetic performance by the renowned Ohafia war dancers drew admiration and excitement from attendees.

Paying tribute, Hon.. Ben Chuka eche, a close associate of the family, described the late Nwafor as a peaceful and kind-hearted man whose wise counsel and gentle disposition positively touched many lives.

In their separate remarks, Chief Hon. Joseph Ani and Nnaji Eucharia Chinenye commended the Nwafor family for the dignified and well-organised nature of the funeral ceremonies. They encouraged the family to remain united and to continue preserving the noble legacy left behind by the deceased.

The event drew a large gathering of family members, friends, and residents of Awgu, who came together to honour the memory of Late Mr. John Uwakwe Nwafor through prayers, tributes, and rich cultural celebrations—celebrating a life widely regarded as impactful and worthy of emulation.
