Lagos to Begin Full Enforcement of E-Call Up System on Lekki-Epe Corridor June 16

The Lagos State Government has announced that full enforcement of the E-Call Up system for articulated vehicles and tankers operating along the Lekki-Epe Corridor will begin on June 16, 2025.

The declaration was made by Deputy Governor Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat during a high-level stakeholders’ meeting held on Thursday, May 29, aimed at addressing the growing concerns over traffic congestion and logistics inefficiencies in the Lekki Free Zone and surrounding areas.

Dr. Hamzat noted that the E-Call Up system is a strategic intervention designed to regulate the movement of heavy-duty vehicles, particularly in light of the industrial and port expansion in the region.

“This system will bring order to the movement of articulated vehicles and tankers, thereby preventing the kind of debilitating gridlock previously witnessed in the Apapa axis. All stakeholders must remain fully committed to its success,” he emphasized.

Also addressing the gathering, the Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, reiterated the state’s commitment to the project, stressing that while prior consultations led to stakeholder consensus, enforcement had been delayed due to logistical challenges and the need for further alignment.

Mr. Osiyemi ordered the immediate removal of all articulated vehicles currently causing obstructions on the Lekki-Epe axis, warning that further violations would attract strict penalties.

“The E-Call Up initiative is not a revenue-generation scheme, but a vital traffic management and infrastructure preservation measure. It will improve safety, streamline vehicle flow, and protect the state’s road network,” he said.

The meeting brought together key industry stakeholders including:

Nigerian Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG)

Petroleum Tanker Drivers (PTD)

Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN)

Major Energies Marketers Association of Nigeria (MEMAN)

Depots and Petroleum Products Marketers Association of Nigeria (DAPPMAN)

Lekki Worldwide Investment Company (LWIC)

Lekki Free Zone (LFZ)

Lekki Deep Sea Port

Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA)

NNPC Retail

Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA)

The Lagos State Government emphasized that continuous engagement and collaboration with these stakeholders would be essential to the system’s smooth operation and long-term success.
