The Lagos State Taskforce has arrested two suspected impersonators who posed as officials of the agency and extorted motorists along the Oshodi–Iyana Ipaja axis.
The suspects, Paul Anthony (42) and Mukaila Adepo (31), were apprehended by undercover Taskforce operatives at Bolade Bus Stop, inward Oshodi. They were caught falsely accusing drivers of traffic offences like one-way driving, while pretending to be law enforcement officers.
According to Taskforce Chairman, CSP Adetayo Akerele, the duo, residents of Mafoluku and Oshodi, are believed to be part of a larger network exploiting innocent drivers.
“These criminals smear the name of our agency and undermine public trust. We are committed to prosecuting everyone involved in impersonation and illegal enforcement,” Akerele stated.
He reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to restoring sanity on Lagos roads, adding, “We are making Lagos uninhabitable for environmental and criminally minded detractors.”
The suspects have been arraigned in court, pleaded not guilty, and were remanded in a correctional facility pending trial.
In a related operation, the Taskforce also clamped down on commercial motorcyclists operating on banned routes. Enforcement officers impounded 69 motorcycles in the Mile 2 Bridge, Agboju, and Apple Junction areas of Festac, where okada riders have recently resurfaced in defiance of the law.
CSP Akerele said the seizures are part of efforts to uphold the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law of 2018. All impounded bikes will be forfeited to the State.
He urged the public to report illegal activities and impersonators through official channels, promising that the Taskforce will continue to ensure the safety and orderliness of Lagos roads.
