Lagos task force nabs 71 miscreants, impounds 227 motorcycles

The Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences (Enforcement) Unit has arrested 71 suspected miscreants and impounded 227 motorcycles plying prohibited routes during a raid on black spots in the Oshodi area of the state.

A statement by the agency’s Head of Public Affairs, Femi Moliki, said the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, ordered the task force to rid Oshodi of traffic robbers and miscreants who harassed and dispossessed motorists and commuters of their belongings.

The statement read in part, “The agency’s team, which was led by its Chairman, CSP Shola Jejeloye, at dawn, raided and combed Oshodi Oke, Oshodi Underbridge, Toyota, Fatai Atere, where many ex-convicts, drug addicts and peddlers were arrested around 5am to 6am.

“Jejeloye, on reaching the agency’s headquarters in Oshodi, personally screened the suspects one after the other before releasing five of them.

“Some motorists and passersby who witnessed the arrest of some of the miscreants commended the agency for removing the miscreants, adding that they made Oshodi inaccessible at dawn and at night.”

The ex-convicts among the suspects were identified as Solomon Ebenezer, Toyin Shoboyejo, Chidebere Peter and Demola Olowe.

In another development, the agency said it impounded 227 motorcycles for plying restricted routes.

The motorcycles were reportedly impounded in the Ikeja Along, Ogba, Alaguntan, Abule Egba, Command, Gate and Ayobo areas of Lagos.
