Human rights lawyer Festus Ogun has vowed to drag Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to court for blocking him on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) for the past three years.
Ogun, who resides in Lagos, announced his intention in a post shared via his verified X account, where he described the governor’s action as an infringement on his constitutional right to freedom of expression.
“This July, I’ll be heading to court to challenge Governor Sanwo-Olu’s decision to block me on X for three years now. A public official cannot shut out residents from a public forum simply because of criticism,” Ogun wrote.
He argued that elected officials using social media to communicate with the public must not censor or block constituents, regardless of dissenting opinions or critical views.
The planned legal action adds to a growing list of global cases testing the limits of digital access and free speech in the age of social media governance.
