Lack of qualified teachers undermining nomadic education – NCNE boss

THE Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Nomadic Education, Prof. Bashir Usman, has said that lack of qualified teachers was undermining the efforts of the commission in the providing education to nomads in the country.

The NCNE boss also lamented that even the few ‘specialised’ nomadic teachers were being transferred indiscriminately.

This is just as he bemoaned the dearth of teachers to educate the nomads across the country.

Usman spoke at a workshop on biometric capturing of nomadic teachers in Zaria, Kaduna State on Monday.

The NCNE boss was represented at the event by the Director, Social Mobilisation and Women Development, Alhaji Mohammed Dan Iya.

According to Usman, nomadic school teachers were being indiscriminately transferred to conventional schools after specialised training.

This, he said, was of great concern to the Commission in its collective efforts to ensuring standard and assuring quality as enshrined in the Ministerial Strategic Plan.

Usman said, “Over the years, the Commission has faced challenges arising from the dearth of teachers in terms of both number and quality.

“More so, the few nomadic school teachers are often transferred indiscriminately from nomadic schools to the conventional ones. Such transfers are done after receiving specialised trainings on how to handle the peculiarities associated with the provision of basic education to the nomads.”

He appealed to State Universal Basic Education Boards, Local Government Education Secretaries to allow teachers posted to nomadic schools to remain on their duty post.
